BIRDSKETCHING WORKSHOP

So, there were two meetings in April 3th and 5th, and I just wanna share with you some photo-reportage of this cool workshop. Oh, yes, it was lot of fun !

It's peaceful and rural corner (park zone) in the city of Ramat Gan (nearby to Tel Aviv) , mostly known for the Zoo (Safari) , for the lake and jogging paths in the park. The National Park is a bird-paradise as well. There are plenty of ducks, geese, swans, parrots and many-many others. Birds are free, with no cages and they are not afraid from people. It's amazing possibility to get close, to see all variety of poses and activities and even to feel the part of the bird community, if you wish to. There are also bird-families with nestlings and so on...

We were sketching during 3 hours each session and at the end of the day each one had a serious stock of sketches. Of course I can only show a little part here.

THE NEXT, UPCOMING MEETINGS ARE

at 16/04, Wed 14:00-17:00 and 20/04, Sun 9:00-12:00

We'll be sketching about 3 hours again; working on right proportions and movement, with accent of efficient use of raw materials, aiming fast work and cheeky result. I will bring some printed materials with me, which explains bird anatomy and habits.

Choice of drawing tools, techniques and medias is up to you. It can be traditional sketching block / paper and soft pencils, using ink or watercolor, or drawing on your iPad, if you are used to.

FLOWER WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP

MARCH 27-29th, 2014
Perfect weather, wonderful spring bloom, lot of watercolor and such a cool group - it was so much fun, guys !!! :-D

The first day was all about petunias. We have about 6 different types here in park. Petunia is not the easiest flower for painting - its shape isn't sharp and petals have wonderful velvet texture, which is quite difficult to paint.

Below - the demo.
In this one I wanted to show how to work with mask.

Here is another demo - small brunch of flowers, very fast, shown in photo "step by step". It's painted very much "a la prima", almost with no line-work at all. I was aiming here the way of thinking in color, building the volume rather than construction.

The second day - petunias again, but dark/deep purple flowers.
Painting with intensive colors but keep them transparent.
Work with layers of colors, painting on wet paper and on dry paper sheet.

It's probably the best piece from this (2013) season of blooming trees. Pity that photo isn't good - the painting is too oily and hard to photograph. When painted in the park, the school-girls were circulating around with comments, opinions and questions. Until I proposed them to take a part in this landscape - to pose. They were very much excited and immediately run to take a place under the tree. While I painted them - the number of models grew, and then another one (at the right, sitting alone) came ... I couldn't reject :-) The teens where so happy and so proud to be there, they said "You made our day perfect!" - just cute.
